For a number of years, the six countries sharing the Mekhong River or known by the name Greater Mekhong Subregion (GMS) have been in the process of constant development from joint planning. These countries are China (Yunnan Province), Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Development in various sectors been identified, e.g. infrastructure, communication, electricity generation, tourism, transportation. Another dimension of development which is equally important is education sector.
