โครงการนักศึกษา (บ้า) ฝึกงาน ถือได้ว่าเป็นอีกโครงการหนึ่งหลักๆ ที่มูลนิธิกระจกเงาเปิดโอกาสให้นักศึกษาที่มีความ (บ้า) อยากฝึกงานได้มาลงภาคสนามปฏิบัติงานที่นี่จริงๆ บนยอดดอยสูงแห่งนี้ ซึ่งนักศึกษามาจากหลากหลายสถาบัน หลายทิศ เช่น เหนือ ใต้ ออก ตก อีกสาน และกลาง วันแรกๆ หลายๆคนอาจจะยังไม่รู้จักกัน แต่พอได้มาฝึกงานแล้วจะได้เพื่อนกลับไปครั้งละ 30-50 คน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเพื่อนรุ่นราวคราวเดียวกัน เพื่อนรุ่นเด็กกว่า หรือเพื่อนสูงอายุ...เหล่านี้ล้วนเป็นมิตรภาพที่น่าทึ่งของสถานที่ฝึกงานแห่งนี้...มูลนิธิกระจกเงา จ. เชียงราย
การได้มาฝึกงานที่นี่ ถือได้ว่าเป็นวัฎจักรแห่งชีวิตของนักศึกษา ทุกคนที่มาสัมผัส ณ กระจกเงาแห่งนี้ล้วนมีหน้าที่ที่ตัวเองต้องรับผิดชอบ ฝึกฝนการเป็นผู้นำ เรียนรู้เทคนิคการใช้ชีวิตแบบง่ายๆ ร่วมกับผู้อื่น ตอบโจทย์ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในแต่ละวัน เผชิญกับทั้งความทุกข์กาย แต่สุขใจ
ความทุกข์กายในที่นี้อาจจะเป็นเหนื่อยหนักจากการทำงาน ทว่าสุขใจกับผลของงานที่เกิดขึ้นกับเราเสมอ การฝึกงานที่นี่ถือว่าเป็นการรับผิดชอบบทบาทหน้าที่ของตนเอง เรียนรู้งาน พร้อมกับมีวิธีในการแก้ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นได้ด้วยตนเอง
ถือได้ว่าไม่ใช่เรื่องยากอะไรกับการได้มาสัมผัสงานจริงๆ ไม่ใช่การชงกาแฟ ถ่ายเอกสาร หากแต่เป็นการทำงานในแง่มุมหนึ่งที่ “เรานักศึกษาทุกคน” ต้องรับผิดชอบงานที่เราได้รับมอบหมาย มีเครียด สนุก ผ่อนคลาย และสุขที่ท่วมท้นคละเคล้ากันไป...แต่สุดท้าย “รอยยิ้ม” จะสะท้อนกลับมาที่ตัวเราเสมอ ถ้าไม่เชื่อต้องลองมาพิสูจน์ด้วยตัวเอง
ภารกิจและงานสำหรับนักศึกษา (หนุ่มสาวไฟแรง) คือ โครงการต่างๆ ที่ต้องสังกัด จะมีเจ้าหน้าที่เทรนงานให้ และช่วยเหลือเรื่องต่างๆ ในการฝึกงานเบื้องต้น และรับประกันได้เลยว่า งานที่ได้ทำนั้นเกี่ยวข้องกับสาขาวิชาที่นักศึกษาได้เรียนมาในส่วนของภาคทฤษฎีโดยตรง
กิจกรรมการลงพื้นที่ ออกชุมชนถือว่าเป็นอีกงานหนึ่งสำหรับนักศึกษา ซึ่งจะทำให้เราได้เรียนรู้วิถีชีวิตของชนเผ่าต่างๆ ในหมู่บ้านรอบๆ บริเวณกระจกเงาแห่งนี้ ประกอบกับการเรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมการแต่งกาย ภาษา และอื่นๆ อีกมากมาย ถือได้ว่าเป็นผลพลอยได้สำหรับโครงการฝึกงานของนักศึกษานั่นเอง

ชีวิตการกิน อยู่ นอน ในกระจกเงา สำหรับนักศึกษาฝึกงาน
อาหารของเราจะมีด้วยกัน 3 มื้อ (เช้า กลางวัน และเย็น) ทุกมื้อจะมีแม่ครัวทำให้ทานเป็นประจำทุกวัน (จันทร์ – ศุกร์) แต่นักศึกษาทุกคนต้องผลัดเปลี่ยนช่วยแม่ครัวในการทำอาหารทุกเช้า ถือว่าเป็นการเรียนรู้การทำอาหารไปในตัว และได้รู้จักเพื่อนด้วย เพราะจัดเวรคละกันระหว่างนักศึกษาที่มาจากต่างมหาวิทยาลัย ทานเสร็จต้องล้างจานของตัวเอง
ในส่วนของที่พักนั้น หญิงชายจะนอนแยกกัน ซึ่งผู้หญิงจะนอนบ้านไม้ ผู้ชายจะนอนบ้านดิน ลักษณะของการนอนคือ จะนอนเรียงกัน ทางกระจกเงาจะมีผ้าห่ม หมอน และที่นอนให้ การใช้ชีวิตในกระจกเงาไม่ได้จำกัดเฉพาะในกลุ่มนักศึกษาเท่านั้น ยังมีเจ้าหน้าที่ อาสาสมัครชาวต่างชาติ ชาวบ้าน เด็กๆ บนดอยแห่งนี้ด้วย ทุกๆ คนเป็นมิตร และทุกคนที่มาที่นี่มีจุดหมายเดียวกันคือ “ช่วยเหลือ” ผู้อื่น ต้องการเป็นสื่อสะท้อนให้สังคมได้เห็นปัญหาต่างๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นบนโลกของเราใบนี้

หลังจากที่เหล่านักศึกษาได้เก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์ทำงานแล้ว สิ่งที่ได้กลับไปเพิ่มอีกหลายเท่า คือ
1. ความพอกพูนของสติปัญญาในการรู้จักและคุ้นเคยกับการแก้ปัญหาต่างๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นกับเรา
2. เพื่อนต่างถิ่นหรือเพื่อนไร้พรมแดน ซึ่งถือได้ว่าเป็นความผูกพันที่เกิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลาที่ฝึกงาน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นระหว่างเพื่อนนักศึกษาฝึกงานด้วยกัน เจ้าหน้าที่ อาสาสมัครชาวต่างชาติ หรือแม้แต่ชาวบ้าน
3. เรียนรู้ภาษาชนเผ่าต่างๆ ภาษาอังกฤษ และภาษาญี่ปุ่น
4. แม้นักศึกษาหลายคนอาจไม่ได้เรียนครูมา แต่อาจจะกลายเป็นครูจำเป็นในการสอนภาษาไทยให้กับชาวต่างชาติ
5. เรียนรู้การทำอาหารต่างๆ เพราะนักศึกษาที่มาฝึกงานที่นี่ต้องเป็นลูกมือแม่ครัวในการทำอาหารอันเลิศรส (มีการจัดเวรทำอาหาร)
6. สำหรับใครที่เป็นโรค (เสพ) ติดโทรศัพท์ ที่นี่จะทำให้คุณลงแดงไปพักหนึ่ง หลังจากนั้น
คุณจะหายจากการเป็นโรคทันที เพราะมูลนิธิกระจกเงา จ. เชียงรายถือได้ว่าเป็นสถานที่ “ปลอดคลื่นโทรศัพท์” อย่างไรก็ตามการมาฝึกงานที่นี่ก็ทำให้เราปลีกตัวจากวัตถุภายนอกไปบ้าง สบายใจ และสุขใจกับสายลม แสงแดด ท้องนาสีเขียวอ่อน ลมเย็นๆ จากต้นไม้ หอมกลิ่นดิน และแน่นอนว่า “ไม่เหงา” ชัวร์
