After 6 years of the university’s operation, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) started offering higher education for inmates in 1984. So far, over 3,300 inmates have enrolled for Bachelor’s degree at STOU and almost 2,000 of them have graduated. This 2014 marks 30 years of educational services STOU has eagerly been providing to ‘all.’

In celebration of the 30-year milestone, STOU and the Department of Corrections organized a graduation ceremony for 114 graduates, who graduated with first class honors with gold medal, second class honors and who have graduated more than 2 Bachelor’s degrees at Bangkwang Central Prison on 24 June 2014. The ceremony was open for the graduates’ family to join and congratulate them.
