During 9-10 May 2014, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University was honored to host the 11th ASEAN Studies Meeting (the OU5 Meeting) in Chiang Mai and Associate Professor Dr. Chailerd Pichitpornchai, President of STOU, gave the opening speech. The purposes of the meeting were to finalize the outcome of the material composition for an international Master’s Program on ASEAN Studies and to discuss future cooperation to implement the program extensively in the 5 ASEAN open universities, consisting of the Open University Malaysia (OUM), the Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), the Universitas Terbuka (UT) and the Hanoi Open University (HOU). Furthermore, the five open universities have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in the area of joint research and publication between the OU5.

On the first day of the meeting, the delegations were invited to a “Khun Tok” welcome dinner to experience authentic Northern Thai Food and they were impressed by a cultural performance.
