่Award of Excellence
In 1995, STOU was awarded the Award of Excellence by the
International Council for Distance Education and the Commonwealth
of Learning in the category of the Excellence of Distance
Education Management. STOU was the sole recipient of the
award among institution from 79 countries that were nominated
for the award for it achievement in expanding education
opportunities, development of instructional techniques in
distance education and development of distance education
on the international and regional level.

Asian Management Award
In 1993, STOU was awarded the Asian Management Award by
The Asian Institute of Management in category of Development
Management. This award is presented to non-profit organizations
or companies from 6 different countries (Hongkong, Indonesia,
Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) which have
distinguished management in various fields. The process
of election the award recipient is from the public survey
and from the distinguished committee who have the experience
in management will consider the non-profit agencies or organizations
from both public and private sectors with the main objective
to improve the quality of life of the people.

The Silver Conch Award
In 1984, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University received
the Public Relations Award from the National Public Relations
Association of Thailand. The award recognized STOU's achievements
in utilizing mass media and public relations technology
to develop a distance learning system geared to meet the
needs of Thai society. STOU is the first open university
in Southeast Asia to develop a complete and comprehensive
distance learning system that offers quality services to
students in their homes, and provides people in every region
of the country with equal opportunities for higher education
in a wide range of areas.

The Makkhla Award
In 1980, The Entertainment News Reporters Association of
Thailand introduced the Makkhla Awards to promote television
program production and encourage people in the television
industry. The Makkhla Awards recognize outstanding achievements
and excellence in various areas of television broadcasting.
In 1981, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University received
the Makkhla Award for the television program "Law for
the Public." STOU's public service program "Law
for the Public" provides the general public with knowledge
of Thai laws that relate to everyday life in a format that
is easy to understand, entertaining, and also offers the
public an opportunity to take part in the program. "Law
for the Public" is televised every Saturday at 8:30-9:00
am on Thai Television Channel 11.
