Awards and Recognitions
  • Award of Excellence

  • In 1995, STOU was awarded the Award of Excellence by the International Council for Distance Education and the Commonwealth of Learning in the category of the Excellence of Distance Education Management. STOU was the sole recipient of the award among institution from 79 countries that were nominated for the award for it achievement in expanding education opportunities, development of instructional techniques in distance education and development of distance education on the international and regional level.
  • Asian Management Award

  • In 1993, STOU was awarded the Asian Management Award by The Asian Institute of Management in category of Development Management. This award is presented to non-profit organizations or companies from 6 different countries (Hongkong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) which have distinguished management in various fields. The process of election the award recipient is from the public survey and from the distinguished committee who have the experience in management will consider the non-profit agencies or organizations from both public and private sectors with the main objective to improve the quality of life of the people.
  • The Silver Conch Award

  • In 1984, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University received the Public Relations Award from the National Public Relations Association of Thailand. The award recognized STOU's achievements in utilizing mass media and public relations technology to develop a distance learning system geared to meet the needs of Thai society. STOU is the first open university in Southeast Asia to develop a complete and comprehensive distance learning system that offers quality services to students in their homes, and provides people in every region of the country with equal opportunities for higher education in a wide range of areas.
  • Makkhla Award

    In 1992, STOU, again, received the Makkhla Award for the "Law for the Public” television program.
    In 2002, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University received the Makkhla Award for the television program "STOU Times",
    the best public educational promotion program.  "STOU Times" provides the STOU’s student and general public with knowledge of useful information in many issues, such as environmental conservation, public health, cultural activities and short courses training.  "STOU Times" is televised every Saturday at 13:00-14:00 on Thai Television Channel 11.
  • The Gold Medal Award

    In 2002, STOU received the Gold Medal Award for Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) “Hello and Goodbye” from Office of the Non-Formal and Informal Education, Ministry of Education.
  • The Outstanding Award for Media Production for Youth
  • In 2001-2002, STOU received the outstanding award for excellence media production for youth, an English computer assisted instruction “Getting Around and Hello and Goodbye”, from the Office of Welfare Promotion, Protection and Empowerment of Vulnerable Groups.

  • The Suriyasasithorn Award
  • In 2004, STOU received the Suriyasasithorn Award for outstanding desk calendar on ‘the Best of Udonthani’ campaign. 
    The award was presented by HE Air Vice Marshal Kamthon Sindhavananda, chair of the ceremony, at the Government
    Public Relations Department.
    The Government Public Relations Department introduced the Suriyasasithorn Award, since 1981, to recognize outstanding and excellence calendar from government and private organizations.
