14.1 Past Simple

           รูปคำกริยา ของ past simple โดยปกติเติม ed ท้ายคำ (V ed) กรณีที่เป็นคำกริยา irregular verb จะเปลี่ยนรูปเฉพาะ 

 

ตัวอย่างรูปคำกริยามีดังนี้

นักศึกษายังสามารถฟังตัวอย่างการออกเสียงท้ายคำของคำกริยารูป past tense เช่นคำกริยาที่ลงท้ายด้วย p, t, k, เมื่อเติม ed  ได้อีกด้วย

 

ถ้อยคำสำนวนบอกเวลาในอดีต เช่น  yesterday, long time ago, last year, in 1900  เป็นต้น

 

Past Simple ใช้ในกรณีต่อไปนี้

       14.1.1 ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีตและจบสิ้นแล้ว

                    Nid went to study computer science in the US.  She came back last month.

 

       ตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้เป็นการสัมภาษณ์อดีตดาราภาพยนตร์ที่มีชื่อเสียง คือ Olivia Hussey ซึ่งแสดงเป็น Juliet ใน Romeo and Juliet  ผู้ให้สัมภาษณ์ได้เล่าถึงประวัติของตนเอง
       การหาความหมายของคำศัพท์ที่ไม่ทราบ นักศึกษาอาจใช้พจนานุกรมอังกฤษ-ไทย เช่น Oxford River Books English-Thai Dictionary  หรือสามารถใช้พจนานุกรมออนไลน์ เช่น

When you were a little girl studying acting in London, is it something you dreamed about really happening? Olivia: I wanted to act since I was four. I remember always playing dress up and pretending to be all these different wonderful characters. As I got a little older I did whatever I could to get into drama school. From there I started taking part in song & dance and various school productions. It was out of the sheer love of the craft that I did it. Also being accepted and gaining approval was a big factor, although at that age I don't think that was a conscious motivation.          14.1.2 ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่เป็นกิจวัตรในอดีต

                           1) past simple (V2)  แสดงกิจวัตรในอดีต

                              When I was a student, I always went to school by boat. Some of

                              my friends rode bicycles.
                              Last month,  Nid logged into the Internet every day.  Now she is bored with it.

                           2) used to + V base form หมายความว่าเคย (กระทำ) ในอดีตบ่อย ๆ สม่ำเสมอ 

                          และยังแสดงนัย ว่าในปัจจุบันไม่เป็นเช่นนั้นแล้ว

                              This market used to be the center of all business in the old days.
                              Cindy used to spend long hours all alone talking to her plants.
