As Venezsky (1944) points out, readers need to make decisions concerning when to read a definition, historical information, or an explanation. Thus, “self-monitoring” becomes crucial so that the reader does not get away from his/her reading purpose. Leu et al: (2004) stress the important of fast reading because the speed of access to information is crucial for success; readers need to skim multiple pages and process large amounts of information in a short time.
